European Association for the Study of the Liver has recently published clinical practice guidelines on the treatment and management of patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC).
Primary biliary cirrhosis is an autoimmune disease, in which the body turns against its own cells (Mayo Clinic). It is described as a slow, progressive destruction of the small bile ducts of the liver that later on develop inflammation. The damage of autoimmune cholestatic liver disease can eventually lead to biliary cirrhosis.
